Traditional Yacht Building techniques in Turkey
Yasemin Yachting - Traditional Yacht Building in Turkey
Frame - Most of the wooden boats for sale in Turkey are built from the traditional Carvel Planking method. This basically means that the frame for the yacht is built first.
Starting with the bottom (keel) and working upwards first to the front (bow) of the boat and then to the back (stern) a basic shape is defined. If you think of this first line as a backbone then it is easy to imagine the ribcage being the shape of the hull. The ribs (frames) are moulds evenly spaced apart the length of the yacht. These are then joined by ribbands or stringers which are long thinner pieces of wood and together they make the skeleton or frame of the hull. The shape of the hull is now clearly shown.
