Lindos - Rhodes

Rhodes town was built around Mandraki Harbour which used to boast another of the Seven Wonders of the World. The port is usually so full of crewed charter yachts and bareboat sailing yachts that it is great fun to have a drink at a pavement café and watch the yachts try to untangle their anchors.

Rhodes is the third largest Greek island and it’s position at the crossroads of two major sea routes made it a strategically important island throughout history. Rhodes was often referred to as the meeting point between three continents and this position, when sailing was the main means of trading, brought to the island great wealth. The city of Rhodes was one of the leading cities of the ancient Greek world.

In the present times it is famous as the island of sun, sea and sand, the ideal place for vacations. Rhodes is the largest island in the Dodecanese. Its capital city located at its northern tip was designated as a World Heritage City in 1988. The many civilizations who settled on Rhodes left their mark in all aspects of the island's culture: especially art and architecture; which has resulted in a spectacular old town center not to be missed.

This is an ideal place to start a cruise and if you can tear yourself away from the old town there are many beautiful bays and coves to anchor in, Lindos in particular is not to be missed.
