KEKOVA
Kekova is one of Turkey’s most spectacular anchorages and is very popular with both the crewed charter yachts and the bareboat sailing yachts. Traditional Wooden Gulettes lie at anchor with sleek Italian speedboats and bareboat sailing yachts.
Kekova is one of the most dramatic anchorages along the Turkish Coast that cannot fail to impress and mystify the passing yachtsman. The name itself means plain of thyme and the gentle fragrance of thyme wafts over the yachts at anchor.
The ancient city of Simena was damaged by earthquakes in the 2 nd Century A.D. and left partially submerged, subsequent earthquakes further submerged the city until a sunken city was created. The underwater walls can be seen very clearly and it is a magical experience to swim around them.
In ancient times Simena was a small fishing village which later became a Crusaders’ outpost of the Knights of St. John. Kalekoy is a spectacular castle providing magnificent photo opportunities from both directions: from the sea looking up at the castle and from the top of the castle looking down at the anchorage and the sunken city
